The TrackPad Foundry
The TP Foundry concentrates on the current instantaneous nature of type design. By utilising bitfont creation software, TPF displays how the market has become oversaturated by the public, who are being led to believe that type design is easy/something that can be jumped into without any prior knowledge or experience.
Multiple programs exist today that allow for “fast!” “easy!” and “free!” ‘font’ creation, with no advocation of a foundation in type knowledge. It is as if type design has existed purely since the dawn of the computer.
TP Foundry satirises the movement of this instant ‘free font’ culture through our “knockoffs” being created as fast as humanly/generatively possible.
TPF also displays the ease of pirating both by human and computer; with instant file distribution and lax copyright infringement laws surrounding typefaces, the public can download, edit and in some cases redistribute type without much repercussion. Magic wands can even be pressed to auto-pirate existing typefaces…
