At hunting practice, the shooter is required to have a few test shots on an object named a ‘clay pigeon trap’. These objects fling bright, orange discs into the sky, to then be used as target practice for the actual hunt. The clay pigeon trap represents the role of the artist or ‘creative thinker’ throwing their new idea into the realm of the real and out of the mind. Whereas the bright neon PG Tips graphic facing the clay pigeon in its perpetual journey represents the strong, shield like values of tradition ingrained within British society. The clashing or meeting of the two ideologies occur when the pigeon comes into contact with the graphic, to then smash and create a pierce or splattered mark. This represents the futile attempts that us artists have against the system. The unstoppable and superior nature of tradition can only be smudged or scratched, but never destroyed.
